New TV channel "History" launched in Russia

A new specialized digital TV channel "History" was launched today by the Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company. As is clear from its name, the new channel will concentrate on world and Russian history, in documentaries and feature films."History" will be available in all cable, satellite and multi-service networks in Russia and the CIS countries, and will become a new complement of the educational line of "Digital TV", which until now consisted of "My Planet" and "Science 2.0"."The Channel certainly is an interesting new view of the historical process. This is, first of all, an educational channel, we will show the most important historical events of the world: from Egypt, Rome, Greece, the Middle Ages and today," the director of digital television Igor Shestakov said at the opening ceremony, according to the RIA News report.The channel will broadcast a rich collection of historical films available to RTR, chief editor of the channel Alexey Denisov said. Our main goal is "to show to the audience that history is bright, interesting, intriguing and informative," he added.Among the first cycles to be broadcast will be "Symbols of Russia", "History of Russia in Medals", "History of a 100 Great Battles," "History of Weapons", "History of the USSR. As it Was," as well as projects of the BBC, the History Channel and Skyvision.
