Spoken Azerbaijani language to be based on language of Baku intelligentsia

The Institute of Linguistics of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) will develop a new grammar of the Azerbaijani language with the participation of the most prominent linguists, the Institute Head, Fakhraddin Veyselli, said on May 8, azernews.az reports. The spoken language of the intelligentsia will be taken as the new basis. Since all of the socio-cultural and social activity is concentrated in the capital, the language spoken in Baku will be taken as a basis. But this dictionary will not be based on Baku dialects, but on the language of the intelligentsia, Veyselli added.The dictionary will be prepared in two or three years, then various discussions will take place, and only after this will the dictionary be presented to the public.
