The Tbilisi State University named after Ivan Javakhishvili has officially announced today the date of the elections of a new rector - August 16.
Early elections are needed because the current rector, Alexander Kvitishvili, has resigned in protest against the amendments to the law "On Higher Education".
Those wishing to become rector of Tbilisi State University are required to make their nominations by July 12, candidates must hold a Doctoral degree or equivalent.
The interim rector will be appointed by the prime minister, Bidzina Ivanishvili.
