Pyatigorsk announces contest for history book on Christianity in North Caucasus

The Pyatigorsk and Cherkessk Eparchy have announced a contest for a history book on Christianity in the North Caucasus, Pravoslaviye I Mir cites Feofilakt, the Bishop of Pyatigorsk and Cherkessk, at a conference entitled “Baptism of North Caucasus in the History of Russian Baptism” dedicated to the 1025th anniversary of Russian Baptism.

The history book will be studied by students of Sunday schools and other education centers of the region.

The plenary session of the conference at the big hall of the Pyatigorsk State Linguistic University was attended by 600 people, including teachers, scientists, journalists and clerics.

Reports were presented by officials from the North Caucasian Federal District, Stavropol Territory, Karachay-Cherkessia, Kabardino-Balkaria and North Ossetia.

Special attention was paid to a report by Candidate of Science Sergey Savenko of the Pyatigorsk Regional History Museum entitled “About Russian role in expansion and strengthening of Orthodox Christianity in North Caucasus”. He believes that ties of Russia and Caucasus base on common religion and were formed on the crossing point of the first and second millennia.
