Russian language becomes target of public disputes in Armenia

 

Vyacheslav Kovalenko, Russian ex-Ambassador to Armenia and a Candidate of History, said that public disputes around the Russian language were a matter of concerns, RIA Novosti reports.

The majority of the Armenian political elite hopes for integration in the EU, while relations with Russia were a question of national security. Kovalenko noted that the problem of the Russian language was an obstacle to European integration.

The public of Armenia fears loss of national identity, mentality and patriotism. The Russian language is a target of numerous accusations in the fields of literature, art and science.
