Russian and Azerbaijani scientists study geology of Caucasus

Scientists at the Institute of Geology of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan (ANAS) together with Russian colleagues are carrying out a research project on "Modern geodynamics, fluid regime, and oil and gas of the Caucasus region," the Presidium of ANAS announced today.

A department head of the Geology Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences Vasily Lavrushin is currently visiting Azerbaijan.

Scientists are conducting research on volcanic mud, snorkelling waters and other matter in the Talysh, Shamakhi, Guba, Lagichskom and other regions. Field work has been carried out, samples of water, volcanic mud and soil are being taken and will be analyzed at the Institute of Geology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Trend reports.

The research will continue until 2015. The results will add to the results of studies on the general geology of the Caucasus, the head of the department of mud volcanoes of the Institute of Geology, Professor Adil Aliyev said.
