International conference on Caucasian War of 19th century opens in Ankara (updated)

Ankara is hosting an international conference entitled ‘The Caucasian War of the 19th century: Realpolitik and ‘memory wars’’ at the University of Economics and Technology (TOBB) in Ankara today. Necip Camuscu, Rector of the University, said that Russian-Turkish trade turnover totaled 33 billion rubles. He reminded that the two states were actively cooperating in culture and that TOBB had a Russian Center for promotion of Russian culture in Ankara.

Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrey Karlov said that it was the first science conference of his life. He believes that the talks will strengthen cooperation between Russia and Turkey. Karlov noted that cooperation of the MSU History Faculty and TOBB was a step towards more intense collaboration.

The conference is attended by scientists of the MSU and MGIMO, North Caucasus, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Turkish experts, state and public officials.
