Vladimir Sadovnichy, Rector of the MSU, told the 8th Festival of Science in Moscow, concluding the 3rd All-Russian Science Festival, that the North Caucasus had many great universities. He highlighted the Kabardino-Balkarian University and its rector, Basarbi Karamurzov. Sadovnichy added that the MSU and the Kabardino-Balkaria were studying mountains together. The MSU has a station on Elbrus.
The MSU rector also pointed out universities in Dagestan and North Ossetia. He called universities cultural centers.
Sadovnichy noted that the MSU had an agreement with Sukhumi University. The MSU has a branch in Baku, one of its strongest branches. The rector added that it was planned to open branches in Yerevan and Georgia.
