Kunaki Cinema Festival opens in Cherkessk

Cherkessk is hosting the 7th Cinema Festival for the first time. The previous six festivals were held in Sochi.

Director of the festival Ilyas Bogatiryov said that directors will arrive from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Krasnoyarsk, Archengelsk, North Caucasus, Minsk, Sukumi. 107 films were sent to the festival, of which 43 will be selected and presented in four nominations: culture and art, family and society, faith and hope, past and future.

The judges will be headed by Yevgeny Golynkin, head of the Expert Council for Non-Fiction Films of the Russian Culture Ministry. Aliy Totorkulov, head of the Russian Congress of Peoples of the Caucasus, noted the importance of the festival and promised hospitality.

Karen Shakhnazarov, Director General of Mosfilm, emphasized the importance of the festival for talks with viewers.

The film festival is supported by the office of the plenipotentiary presidential envoy to the NCFD, government of Karachay-Cherkessia, Union of Russian Journalists, Russian Congress of Peoples of the Caucasus, Elbrusoid Foundation and the Guild of Russian Film Experts and Critics.
