Dagestani Leader Ramazan Abdulatipov has told Vestnik Kavkaza about the promotion of national culture at the “Silver Legend of the Caucasus. Manaba Magomedova” at the State History Museum of Moscow.
He said that centers for traditional culture had been opened in Makhachkala, twenty districts and cities, laboratories had been created for national instruments, music and costumes. At the same time, Dagestan wants to combine the traditional and modern art.
Abdulatipov noted that the art, including jewelry, had been developing for 12 generations, starting in about the 15-16th century, maybe even earlier. The Dagestani leader added that art skills should be passed on to the next generations.
The “Silver Legend of the Caucasus. Manaba Magomedova” exhibition marks the 85th anniversary of Manaba Magomedova, a famous Dagestani jeweler from Kubachi. She is the only woman to master the Kubachi art of working with silver and weapon-making. Her exhibition was organized by the Dagestani permanent establishment to commemorate the artist. The opening of the exhibition was attended by Abdulatipov, Dagestani Culture Minister Zarem Butayev, Director of the State History Museum Alexey Levykin, daughters of Rasul Gamzatov, Patimat and Salikhat, notable artists and art scholars.
