A group of Muslim theologians is starting to work on a new Russian translation of the Holy Quran for both Muslims and non-Muslims to read, said Rushan Abbyasov, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Council of Muftis, ITAR-TASS reports.
Abbyasov explained that existing translations had been made by individual authors, not groups of experts. He noted that the group of theologians contained authoritative experts of the Russian and Arabic languages. He admitted that no translation would give the same feeling as the Arabic original.
Commenting on the time needed for the translation, Abbyasov said that it may take over 5 years.
