Victor Sadovnichy, rector of the Moscow State University, named after M.V. Lomonosov (MSU), today rounded up the achievements of the University and described its plans for the future. He said that 25% of graduates received diplomas with distinction. 7,000 became post-graduate students. Sadovnichy thanked the staff of the University for their work.
The rector noted the role of branches of the University abroad. He mentioned that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev had built a large campus for the University in Baku. The University opened in Kazakhstan and Tajikistan.
Sadovnichy said that foundation of a branch in Yerevan had almost been resolved. The Russian Foreign Ministry was discussing guarantees of state support as it had been done in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
He recommended people to ignore world ratings for the Russian education system. The official believes that the role of the University is much greater.
The development program of the University until 2020 says that the MSU became a world leader in some aspects. Scientists all over the CIS will be able to use its supercomputer. Sadovnichy emphasized that no such project had been accomplished in any part of the post-Soviet space or Europe.
The rector described the plans to registered the MSU as a brand. The image of the University’s building will be the primary feature of quality of the brand.
