The 7th Yuri Bashmet International Winter Art Festival opened in Sochi yesterday, Yuga.ru reports.
Spectators heard a Paganini rhapsody performed by solo singer Denis Matsuyev, an overture on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, the aria of Lyudmila from the Ruslan and Lyudmila opera and other compositions.
The festival was organized within the framework of the cultural program of the Sochi Olympic Games. The program includes concerts and exhibitions, film demonstrations, discussions of literature and master classes.
Artistic Director of the festival Yuri Bashmet thanked authorities of Sochi, Krasnodar Territory, Culture Ministry and the Russian government for support.
Italian and Polish evenings are planned this year. The Russian evening will be organized today. Yevgeny Onegin is one of the new projects this year. Constantine Khabensky will read a few lines, followed by hits from an opera of Tchaikovsky.
