Christians Worldwide Celebrate Easter

Christians of all confessions celebrate Easter – the Resurrection of Christ - this Sunday. This night Easter services are being held in all the Catholic and Protestant churches around the globe. More than five thousand people are attending the night Easter service at the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow. Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia is leading the service. Patriarch Kirill congratulated all the believers with the great holyday of Easter.
“We should keep sacred joy of the Easter night in our harts as long as it is possible”, said Patriarch Kirill in the end of the nights Easter service. 

In his Easter address Patriarch Kirill wished his compatriots to ponder over the meaning of Easter which consists in “rising above the bustle of everyday life” in order “to see the genuine loftiness of God’s love,” reports ITAR-TASS.

This year, more than 5.000 people attended, reports Easter night service held in the main Cathedral of Russia, reports Interfax.

Over 100 000 police officers and 3 500 soldiers provide security of the celebrations all over the country, informed MIA press office.

Russian president Dmitrii Medvedev congratulated Patriarch Kirill with the great holiday of Easter, reports ITAR-TASS, citing Kremlin press service. “Easter celebrations have deep historical traditions and ethic significance in our country.”

In his message, Putin pointed out "enormous" role the Orthodox Church in the "renaissance of national traditions and the consolidation of society." He expressed hope that Easter would "bring peace and love into every home."
