Atrakhan will mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko, despite resignation of the governor of the Rovenskaya Oblast, regional Prime Minister Constantine Markelov said, Interfax reports.
The two regions have a deal on humanitarian cooperation, including marking of the Shevchenko anniversary. Ukrainian officials were to unveil a monument of the poet. Astrakhan was obligred to reconstruct a Shevchenko school and beautify the nearby territory, including the house Shevchenko had returned to after exile in 1857.
