The Russian Academy of Sciences has held its first congress after its controversial reformation. Attendants of the meeting will focus on the adoption of a new charter, RIA Novosti reports.
Over 1,600 academicians and corresponding members of the RAS, members of the Academy of Medical Sciences and the Academy of Agricultural Sciences will take part in the congress.
The meeting will open with a speech of RAS President Vladimir Fortov, followed by presentations of Vice Presidents Valery Kozlov, Ivan Dedov and Gennady Romanenko. The talks will continue with discussions of the budget of 2015. Vice President Valery Kostyuk will make a speech after that.
The RAS presidium will be elected after the speeches.
The new charter will be adopted if at least half of all the attendants vote for it. The charter would need approval of the Russian government.
The Lomonosov Big Golden Medal will be awarded to academicians Ludwig Faddev and US Professor Peter Laks for their achievements in mathematical physics.
