International festival of Muslim cinema opens in Kazan
An international festival of Muslim cinema will be open in Kazan on
Wednesday - there will be screenings of 80 films from 28 countries,
RIA Novosti reports.


The sixth Kazan international festival of Muslim cinema is held in the
capital of Tatarstan from September 15 to 19.


60 countries will take part, including Iran, Egypt, Russia, India,
France, USA, Algieria, Jordan, Norway, Palestine, Italy, UK and
others.


The festival has been held in Tatarstan since 2005, and is called the
'Golden Minbar'. This year it was sponsored by the Ministry of Culture
of Tatarstan and the administration of Kazan.


The head of Russian Mufti Council , who initiated the first festival
in Kazan, said that films of the cinema forum teach humanism of Islam
and other religions. The mufti blessed the forum and wished success to
all participants.

The contest schedule includes 52 works: 15 feature films, 17
documentaries, 10 short and animated films. There will be 9
participants from Tatarstan each presenting one feature and one short
film, two documentaries and 5 animated films. The non-contest program
includes 24 works: 11 story films and 13 documentaries.
