Russia is marking the 200th anniversary of writer Mikhail Lermontov. He was born on October 15, 1814. Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit Lermontov’s mansion Tarkhany in the Penza Oblast today, attend a forum on education organized by the All-Russian People’s Front. Over 500 people, including activists of the Front, teachers, parents of pupils, experts of ministries and agencies, lawmakers, senators will attend the meeting, TASS reports.
A gala concert will be held at the Bolshoi Theater. It program will consist of performances based on Lermontov’s works. Yuri Laptev is the director of the concert. An orchestra version of “Nina’s Romance” from Alexander Mosolov’s “Masquerade,” a vocal version of Aram Khachaturyan’s waltz from “Masquerade,” supplemented by verses from Pavel German’s “A meeting with Lermontov” will be performed. Yevgeny Bolkov is the chief musician of the concert.
