Baku will host the 7th International Mstislav Rostropovich Festival on May 18-24. Olga Rostropovich, the art director and president of the Mstislav Rostropovich Foundation, told Vestnik Kavkaza that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva and the Heydar Aliyev Foundation were actively assisting in organizing the festival. Olga Rostropovich thanked them for their support and respect towards her father.
Italian conductor Riccardo Muti and his Orchestra Giovanile Luigi Cherubini will take part in the upcoming festival. Olga Rostropovich admitted that persuading Riccardo Muti to attend was hard due to his busy schedule.
She added that Mstislav Rostropovich had always had a special sentiment towards Azerbaijan. Olga reminded that her father had been born in Baku, and loved the city. In her words, Mstislav had special ties with Azerbaijani President Heydar Aliyev.
