From October 22 to 27 Azerbaijan will host the First International Ashiks Festival with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Fund. The Ministry for Culture and Tourism, with the participation of the Association of the Azerbaijani Ashiks, has created an organizational committee, Trend reports referring to Zohra Aliyeva, the Ministry spokeswoman.
Ashiks from Turkey, Iran, Georgia, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan are expected to attend the festival.
The work of the Azerbaijani Ashiks was included on the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage last year.
