Muslim Magomaev statue to go up in Moscow

A statue is to be erected in Moscow to the late Azerbaijan singer Muslim Magomaev, reports RIA Novosti.

Moscow mayor Yury Luzhkov has signed an order on the erection of a bronze statue on a marble pedestal in a central Moscow park. The monument was designed by sculptor Alexander Rukavishnikov with funding
by the Krokus-International company.

Magomaev died in 2008 at the age of 67 years old. The singer is buried in the Alley of Honor in his native Baku.

Magomaev, who shot to fame in the Soviet era, is also remembered as a talented actor and composer. In 1997, one the planets of the Solar system was named after him.
