The official opening of the Baku International Theatre Conference took
place today at the National Academic Theatre, with the support of the
Ministry of Culture and Tourism. The conference started its work on
the 8th of November and is dedicated to the problems of modern
theatre.
APA reports that the conference was attended by over 70 theatre
professionals from 30 countries.
The Minister of Culture and Tourism, Abulfaz Garayev, noted in his
speech at the conference that theatre in Azerbaijan has long
traditions: "In the second half of the 19th century Azerbaijan
experienced fundamental changes in the sphere of art and culture.”
Garayev said that 28 theatres currently operate in Azerbaijan
The head of the Russian Theatre Five Evenings Festival, Marina
Dmitrievskaya, noted that in Russia, as well as in other countries,
the theatre is losing its former spirit.
