The "International Philosophy Day" Conference kicked off today in Tehran, despite protests from foreign as well as Iranian philosophers, IRNA reports. Iran's President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, attended the opening ceremony. He is also expected to address the conference later.
More than 100 foreign philosophers are due to take part in the three-day conference. Issues of contemporary religion, politics, science, art and tourism are on the agenda.
Previously, UNESCO canceled its decision to hold 'Philosophy Day' in Tehran, but the Iranian authorities organised the activity on their own.
