The opening of the memorial ‘We were together in the fight against
fascism’ at Poklonnaya Hill has stirred up the public. Its
construction was initiated after the explosion at the Memorial of
Military Glory in Kutaisi, resulting in injuries. Russian and Georgian
social organizations proposed the construction of an analogue of the
memorial in Moscow.
The president of the Congress of National Unity of Russia ‘Unity of
Russian and Georgian People’, Vladimir Khomeriki, said that the
opening is a very important event in the history of the two peoples.
He said that he welcomes the opening of any memorials dedicated to the
Great Patriotic War. The main idea of the monument is the unity of the
Russian and Georgian people in the war, Vladimir Khomeriki said in an
interview with Vestnik Kavkaza.
