Gazel minibuses will be removed from Sochi by April 1, and replaced
with more comfortable buses.
The reorganization is going in stages. 367 Gazels were replaced in 2010.
Over 160 minibuses were removed in January 2011, only 60 are left. 20
more will be removed in early February and 40 will remain where buses
are unable to travel due to mountain areas or narrow roads. Sochi
Mayor Anatoly Pakhomov said that they will establish a unique network
for passenger transport by 2014, RIA Novosti reports.
The city authorities are working in cooperation with the Russian
Railways company, the transport directorate and the Organization
Committee Sochi 2014. The program includes launch of suburban trains.
The trains are expected to reduce the number of buses.
