Uzbekistan to breed sturgeon

Uzbekistan plans to start mass sturgeon-breeding, to increase the
sturgeon population in 5-6 years, CA-News reports.


The director of the  scientific research center for the fishing
industry, Ruhullo Kurbanov, told “Narodnoye Slovo” that they had
brought 1,500 young sturgeons there.


Specialists plan to produce fish eggs in 3 years.


70% of the fish in at Uzbek markets grown by its own fish-breeding
farms are silver carps. Grass and silver carps are the most common.
Asps, snakeheads, catfish and trout are also popular.


Uzbekistan produced 10.7 tons of fish products in 2009, compared with
6.5 tons in 2006.
