Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili attended today the opening ceremony of the first stretch of the pipeline, built by the SOCAR Georgia Gas, the so-called "daughter" of SOCAR, State Oil Company of Azerbaijan in the Georgian town of Poti, Trend reports.
The opening ceremony was attended by the president of the SOCAR, Rovnag Abdullayev, CEO of the SOCAR Energy Georgia, Mahir Mammadov, Director of the SOCAE Georgia Gas, Anar Mamedov, the Georgian Energy Minister, Alexander Khetaguri and other Georgian officials.
Saakashvili called the agreement with Baku on gas supplies a manifestation of friendship and support from the leadership of Azerbaijan.
The gas pipeline stretch 6.8 kilometer long will cover nine residential buildings and the private sector, and will supply gas to 707 potential subscribers.
This event is especially important for both the city and for the whole country, as the city of Poti previously has not been able to receive natural gas, and the SOCAR Georgia gas supplies will largely contribute to its economic development.
