Baku hopes to reach an agreement on the status of the Caspian with
Tehran, Azerbaijani Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmar Mammadyarov said
in an interview with Russia Today, Trend reports.
Azerbaijan, Russia and Kazakhstan have already reached an agreement,
and there is rapprochement with Turkmenistan. If four states reach an
agreement, it is possible to reach it with a fifth, the minister
noted.
A framework convention on protection of the Caspian Sea was signed in
November 2003.
Kazakhstan and Russia signed an agreement on delimitation of the north
part of the Caspian Sea, a protocol to the agreement was signed in May
2002.
Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan signed similar agreements on November 29,
2001, and February 27, 2003.
Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Russia signed an agreement on the crossing
border point on May 14, 2003.
