Third economic zone to be formed at Georgia’s Poti port

The third economic zone will be opened at Georgia’s Poti port on February 11, Finances Minister Kakha Baindurashvili said at a meeting with businessmen in Batumi, Business Georgia reports.

The first economic zone was opened by President Mikheil Saakashvili at Lilo customs zone, near Tbilisi. A similar zone, simplifying service for exporters and importers, was opened at Adlia (Adzharia) customs point.

Economic zones are part of the new Georgian economic course. They relieve importers and exporters of need for brokers, declarants and other mediators when importing goods.

Payments for cargo registration take five days and cost some 250 lari, which cuts the former costs 3-4 fold.
