Yerevan subway tickets to double in price

The price for subway tickets in Yerevan may double, Armenian Deputy
Finances Minister Vardan Aramyan said on Wednesday, ARKA reports.

The deputy minister said that it is a reasonable step as prices have
been unchanged since 2002.

The current price per tickets is 0.13 cents. Raising the prices is due
to inflation and the necessity to have the subway switch to
self-financing.

He added that the subway prices in Armenia are quite low, compared
with global prices. The Yerevan subway, named after Karen Demirchyan,
opened in 1981 and consists of 10 stations. The last station,
Charbakh, was opened in 1996.
