Asian Development Bank invests some $700 million in Azerbaijan

The Asian Development Bank invested $600-700 million in Azerbaijani economy, spokesman of the bank Olli Noroyono said at the Caspian-European Integration Business Club forum on investment projects in Azerbaijan, Trend reports.


Azerbaijan received $11.5 million in form of grants in 1999-2009 as support.


The Asian Development Bank provided $1.11 of grants on financing 92 projects, credits worth a total of $13.23 million and technical support worth $267.2 million.


The bank defined 5 priority spheres for the next ten years: infrastructure development, ecology, financial sector, education and regional cooperation.


The ADB will invest in Azerbaijani transport, city infrastructure, energy, banking and industry.
Azerbaijan is the member of the ADB since 1999.


The Asian Development Bank was founded in 1966 and has 67 members. Its headquarters are located in the capital of the Philippines, Manila. Azerbaijan has a 0.5% share of the bank’s capital.


The bank’s main shareholders are Japan and the USA (31.2%), India and China (12.8%), Australia, South Korea and Canada (16%).
