Gazprom registers 50% share in construction of South Stream

The Russian gas holding Gazprom has registered a 50% share in the
joint venture South Stream Austria GmbH, on construction of the
Austrian section of the South Stream pipeline, RIA Novosti reports.

Russia and Austria signed an inter-governmental deal on cooperation in
the South Stream project in April last year. It is the basis of the
deal between Gazprom and Austria’s OMV.

The pipeline will transport 63 billion cubic meters of gas annually.
The sea section will run along the Black Sea bed from the Russkaya
compression station on the Russian coast to Bulgaria. It will be 900
km long with a maximum depth of over 2 km.

Inter-governmental agreements have also been signed with Bulgaria,
Serbia, Hungary, Greece, Slovenia and Croatia to realize the project.
