Georgia and Turkey to construct power line

A new high-voltage transmission line "Batumi-Myuratli" will be built between Georgia and Turkey. It will allow 350 mW of electricity to be exported from Georgia to Turkey, Georgian Energy Minister Aleko Khetaguri announced today at a meeting with President Mikheil Saakashvili, Business Georgia reports.

Khetaguri said that construction of the transmission line will begin soon. The first phase of construction should be completed in 1.5 years, allowing 175 MW of electricity to be exported to Turkey. The second phase of construction will be finished by 2013, after which it will become possible to export another 175 MW, reaching the total capacity of the line, the minister said.
