Azerbaijan sums up interim results of region development programs

Azerbaijan has reviewed the interim results of the program on region development. Minister of Economic Development Shafin Mustafayev said that fulfilment of all the social programs in the last 2 years proves the advantages of the national program of economic development. Mustafayev spoke on the issue at the conference on the State Program for Social-Economic Development of Azerbaijani Regions for 2009-2013. President Ilham Aliyev was also at the conference, Trend reports.


The minister said that the GDP growth rate in 2010 was 5%, non-oil sector – 7.9%, oil industry 6.6%, population income growth exceeded inflation two-fold.


Mustafayev said that he supervises realization of the second program. He visited 27 regions, took part in opening over 170 industry, transport, education, healthcare, culture, sports, tourism and other enterprises. Systematic visits define the goals for each region. The minister said that he ordered additional measures to be taken to speed up social-economic development of a set of cities and regions.


Realization of the North-South and East-West transport corridors continued, over 635 km of roads were constructed and repaired according to international standards. The district road of Baku, a 22-kilometer section of the Alyat-Astara-Iran road, Mingyachevir-Haldan, Bilasuvar district road and a bridge, the Nakhcivan-Sadarak trunk road and other facilities were launched.\Construction of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, an international sea port and ship-building factory will improve the country’s transit potential, Mustafayev said.
