More than 260 pigs were destroyed at a farm in the village of Temirgoevskaya in the Kurgan region in Krasnodar Krai due to an outbreak of African swine flu, RIA Novosti reports.
Pigs began to die on Sunday. The Kropotkin regional veterinary laboratory studied the dead pigs and discovered genetic material of the African swine flu virus.
The authorities do not plan to destroy pigs on the local private farms.
In February 2011 an outbreak of swine flu was registered in the village of Nikolaevskaya. Last year Kurgan region vets had to destroy 5,600 pigs for the same reason. Human beings are resistant to the virus.
