Russia will not abandon plans for constructing nuclear power plant

There is no threat from Japanese nuclear power plants to Russia, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said at a visit to Tomsk, ITAR-TASS reports.


Russia will not change its plans on constructing nuclear power plants, he added.


Putin ordered the Emergencies Ministry, Rosatom and heads of regions to use all the means necessary to avoid panic over the events in Japan.


RIA Novosti reported on March 14 that Russian President Dmitry Medvedev called Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan and expressed condolence on the natural disaster in Japan and ways of providing support, Medvedev’s press-secretary Natalya Timakova said.


Kan thanked the Russian side for attention and support.
