Chechnya plans to increase cultivation areas this year

In 2011 the Chechen authorities plan to increase the area of spring sowing and significantly expand the acreage of sunflowers from 5 thousand to 18.5 thousand hectares -  and also to sow new crops.

This was reported by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Chechnya, Khan Pasha Matuyev, at a meeting of the operational staff in preparation for spring field work.

"The increase in acreage occurs due to land reclamation and the clearing of mines, as well as the return of unused land to agricultural use," Matuyev quotes the press service of the Chechen leadership.
