Bahrain closes air connections with Lebanon and Iran

Bahrain has closed air connections with Lebanon and Iran until March 31 because of their criticism, KM-News reports.


The Lebanese Shiite organization Hezbollah expressed support for anti-government protesters. Iran supports militarized organizations. Tehran also condemned Bahrain for measures against protesting Shiites, RIA Novosti reports.


Bahrain has been having Shiite protests since February. They demand that the authorities, from the Sunni minority, hold democratic reforms. Seven people have been killed and hundreds injured in clashes with the police.


The authorities of Bahrain requested Saudi Arabia and the UAE to send military enforcements within the mission of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (CCASG). King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa announced an emergency situation and curfews on March 14. All schools, higher education centers and stock exchanges were closed.


Law-enforcers used tear gas and heavy vehicles to drive protesters from the main square in Manama on March 16. Three police officers and protesters died then.
