Azerbaijani power plants increase production by 2100 MW

Azerbaijan has constructed 10 power plants, increasing productivity by 1500 MW. Reconstruction of existing power plants allowed power output to increase by 600 MW, head of Azerenergy (company producing and distributing electricity in Azerbaijan) Etibar Pirverdiyev said, the official website of the ruling Yeni Azerbaijan Party reports.


Azerbaijan currently has 13 thermal and 6 hydro electric plants producing a total of 6400 MW. Azerbaijan had 600 transformation units with a power of 2500 MW installed. Over 30,000 km of power lines were laid.


The republic continues reconstructing generating units. The Azerbaijani thermal power plant increased its output from 2000 MW to 2600 MW.


The Mingyachevirskaya thermal power plant is preparing for reconstruction.


The Varvarinskaya dam will increase productivity by 90 MW.


Azerenergy is planning to repair several minor dams that were shut down.
Pirverdiyev said that the Janub power plant at Shirvan will reduce fuel consumption by approximately 700,000 tons annually.


Construction of the Fizuli dam with an output of 25 MW will be concluded in mid-2011. It will improve energy security at Aranskaya zone.


The official said that they will construct a dam with an output of 400 MW on Kura River at Tovuzsky District.
