Iranian Deputy Minister of Roads and Transport, Reza Pilpaye, said that the Qazvin Rasht railway project is 50% complete, Iran News reports.
Director-General of the Iranian company for construction and development of transport infrastructure, Ahmed Sadek, for his part, said that among the priority programs of the Ministry of Roads and Transport is the further development of rail transport. Focusing on the benefits of the construction of the Qazvin Rasht railway, Ahmed Sadek said that it is a part of the international "North-South” transport corridor, and the annual volume of goods transported by it will amount to 20 million tons, therefore it will play an important role in the development of the country's economy and, in particular, tourism. This railway will link Iran with the countries of Central Asia, the Caucasus and Europe.
Ahmed Sadek said that the first phase of the project includes building tunnels with a total length of 21 thousand metres and large railway bridges with a total length of 17 thousand metres.
