Khosein Abedi, director of the department of agriculture Jihad of the administration of Astara (Gilan Province), said in an interview with IRNA that 191,642 tons of agriculture were exported to Russia, Azerbaijan and Ukraine through Astara on 03.21.10-03.20.11, Iran.ru reports.
This includes export of grape, eggplants, onions, potatoes, dates, cucumbers, soya, greens, pepper, kiwi, tomatoes and carrots.
Abedi said that export rose by 30% compared with 2009 and reached $128.688 million.
Iran imported 195,831 tons of agriculture products through Astara terminal from Russia and Azerbaijan. The main import products are pines and beech, cotton seeds and colza, millet, lentil.
18,970 tons of agriculture products to Iraq, UAE and Turkey passed the terminal in Astara.
Astara has a population of 80,000 people and is located in the north-west province of Gilan. It is the third largest crossing point with Azerbaijan.
