Iran to increase gas supplies to Armenia six-fold

Javad Ouji, Iranian Deputy Petrol Minister and Director of the Iranian National Gas Company, said that Iran may increase gas supplies to Armenia six-fold, News.am reports.


Iranian gas exports reached a record of 8.5 billion cubic meters last year, increasing by 26%, MEHR reports.


Iran signed a contract to export over 20 million cubic meters to Pakistan until 2014.


Baghdad will hold a new round of trilateral talks between Iran, Iraq and Syria.


Armenia initiated construction of the Iran-Armenia gas pipeline in 2004. Construction of the Megri-Kadzharan gas pipeline ended in March 2007, Kadzharan-Ararat ended in late 2008. The pipeline diameter of the first section is 711 mm, length – 40 km, capacity – 1.2 billion cubic meters of gas annually. The second section is 150 km long. Capacity is planned to reach 2.3 billion cubic meters by 2019.


Armenia used Russian gas via Georgia. ArmRosgazprom has the monopolic right to supplies and distribution of Russian gas on the internal market of Armenia.
