First block of Rostov nuclear power plant shut down for maintenance

The first block of the nuclear power plant in Rostov has been shut down for major maintenance activities, which will take 55 days, RIA Novosti cites the power plant’s information center.
Nuclear fuel will be replaced and systems and equipment will be checked. Modernization is included in the activities.


400 specialists of the power plant and 1,500 from contract organizations are involved in the work.

Conclusion of the maintenance will be followed by Rosatom carrying out maintenance and renovation activities in 50 days.


The nuclear power plant in Rostov is part of the Rosenergoatom Concern. It is located at the Tsimlyansky water reservoir, 13.5 km away from Volgodonsk. Two energy blocks of the Water-Water Energetic Reactor (WWER-1000) produce 1000 MW. The first energy block was launched in 2001, the second in December 2010. The third and fourth energy blocks have been under construction since 2009.
