Ahmed Sadeki, Director General of the company for construction and development of transport infrastructure, said that the Erak-Melayer and Merage-Miandoab railway lines with a total length of 136 km are ready for opening, ISNA reports.
The Erak-Melayer has a length of 90 km, Merage-Miandoab – 46 km.
Sadeki said that Erak-Melayer will connect Iran and Iraq using the Khosravi terminal. It will provide railway connection for transit freighting between Central Asia and the Mediterranean.
Erak-Melayer will connect the western provinces of Iran and Tehran with the whole railway network. It will contribute to socio-economic and cultural development of western regions.
Sadeki said that the Merage-Miandoab line is the first stage of constructing the Merage-Urmia line. Preliminary information sys that cargo freighting demands will reach some 70 million tons in the next 5 years, passenger transport – 60 million people. Economic benefit should reach at least $255 million.
