An agreement on transit of Azerbaijani gas through Turkey to Europe will be signed in the near future, Levent Ozgul, manager for development of strategy and business of the Turkish state pipeline company Botas, said in Baku on Tuesday, Trend reports.
The deal will be concluded in the second quarter of 2011.
Botas has already given SOCAR (the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijani Republic) the right to gas supplies to Greece. Gas used to be re-exported to Greece.
SOCAR will transport 750 million cubic meters of gas.
Azerbaijan plans to sign a contract on gas transit through Turkey, giving way to realization of the Southern Gas Corridor project.
The Southern Gas Corridor includes such projects as Nabucco, the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), the White Stream and ATGI (Turkey-Greece-Italy). The Southern Corridor is a priority project for the EU, aimed at diversifying gas routes and sources of energy to improve energy security.
