Dagestani fire victims waiting for compensation

Funds allocated from the federal budget to eliminate the consequences of the fire, which occurred in November 2010 in the village of Tsibari in the Tsuntinsky district of the republic, have not yet been transferred to victims’ accounts, the chairman of the government of Dagestan, Magomed Abdullaev, said at an operational meeting today, RIA Novosti reports.

The fire in the village of Tsibari occurred on November 30. Firefighters managed to save only ten houses out of 95. No human causalities were reported. Twenty of the 104 families left homeless were settled in vacant houses in nearby villages. The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations and neighbouring regions have collected 40 tons of humanitarian aid to help the victims.

In late December 2010 the Russian government signed an agreement to allocate 70 million rubles to eliminate the consequences of the fire.

According to the deputy prime minister of Dagestan, Ridvan Gazimagomedov, the victims have not yet received the money because the district administration have been compiling lists of victims in the past three months.
