The Institute of Economy and Transport of the Russian Railways prepared a project for passenger railway transport for the 2018 World Cup . It may need an additional one trillion rubles, RIA Novosti reports.
FIFA voted for Russia to host the cup. 13 cities may host the games: Moscow, Daint-Petersburg, Kaliningrad, Kazan, Yaroslavl, Nizhny Novgorod, Saransk, Samara, Volgograd, Yekaterinburg, Rostov-on-Don, Krasnodar and Sochi.
Authors of the concept expect 500,000 people to be transported. The document is split into four parts.The first concerns super-speed transport with construction of the Moscow - Saint-Petersburg, Moscow - Nizhny Novgorod - Kazan lines with extension to Yekaterinburg. The second part concerns high-speed connection between cities where matches will be held.
Most passengers will need five hours to reach their destination. Improvement of double-lines will need 10 billion rubles.
The third part concerns transport of fans from airports to matches. Railway lines were planned for the airports of Samara, Krasnodar and other cities.
The fourth part is carriages. 100 Desiro trains of Siemens are needed. They have already been purchased for the Winter Olympic Games. Most of them will be made in Russia. The high-speed trains will be made by either Alstom, Bombardier or Siemens.
