Devaluation of Belarusian ruble reaches 56%

Belarusian ruble was devalued by the National Bank of Belarus for about 56 percent.

As reported by ITAR-TASS news agency in the National Bank, on the exchange rate for May, 24 was sat at 4,930 rubles for 1 dollar while today, according to the official exchange rate cost only 3,155 rubles. Thus the official devaluation amounted to more than 56 percent. Belarusian ruble has fallen likewise against the euro and British pound. Against a basket of three currencies it fell by 55.3 percent in one day.

So far the National Bank does not comment on why devaluation was so drastic.
