Armenian nuclear power plant to be tested

The EU plans to invite a set of states, including Armenia, to carry
out stress-tests of nuclear power plants. Russia, Turkey, Switzerland,
Ukraine will also be invited, EU Commissioner for Energy Gunther
Oettinger said, 1news.az reports.

The EU has 143 nuclear reactors in 14 states.

The tests will determine whether there is enough equipment at nuclear
power plants in case of emergency shut-downs.

A set of reactor coolers crashed in Japan after the earthquake causing
radiation release.

The European Commission will use test results for improvement of
nuclear legislation in 2012.

EU will test nuclear facilities for their resistance to earthquakes
and anthropogenic catastrophes, such as plane crashes. Test results
will be ready on September 15.

The tests were initiated after the accident at the nuclear power plant
of Fukushima-1, caused by an earthquake and tsunami in mid-March.
