Iran will launch the Asalouyeh-Bushehr-Shiraz railway by the end of
the five-year plan for development of the country (2011-2015), Iran
News reports.
Bushehr Safai, head of the Roads and Transport Organization of Bushehr
Province, said that the railway will be 647 km long. Its construction
was initiated by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and the government of
Bushehr during the president's second visit.
Over 32% of the work has been completed. Construction is still going
on at 18 sections. 12 of them are 300 km long and located in the
Bushehr Province. Construction is held on 2 sections in the province,
with a length of 100 km. The first section will connect Ahram and
Bushehr, the second - Ahram and Asalouyeh. Two more sections of 95 km
are constructed in Fars.
About $700 million will be spent on the construction. The Ministry of
Petroleum and the Ministry of Roads and Transport will have equal
shares in covering the costs.
Realization of the Asalouyeh-Bushehr-Shiraz project started in 2007.
Ahram is 55 km south-east of Bushehr.
